Amali Maxine Phillips

Statement
I am a fourteen-year-old self-taught visual artist and poet. I began writing poetry when I was five years old. When I was eight years old I published my poetry book, called “Dear Parents”, available on Amazon. The book’s proceeds are given to a homelessness charity in New York City. I have been honored to have been a podcast interviewee for my book, invited to write a forward for a graphic novel, and to have been depicted in a painting as a role model for disabled artists. While I still write, my passion has expanded to painting, sketching and digital art. In 2019 my self-portrait was selected for an art exhibition at a Columbia University art gallery. Outside of visual arts and poetry, I also enjoy making beats and have MC’d and performed on stage at a rock camp for girls.
